Goodnight Mister Tom is a moving adaptation of the book of the same name by Michelle Magorian. 

 During WWll Tom Oakley, a disgruntled reclusive old man haunted by the death of his family, meets a young evacuee called William whose home life has not been good. This has left him very frightened and fearful of the unknown. Neither Mr Tom nor William want to be together at first but out of a difficult situation a delightful relationship grows. One day it all changes when William has to return home but desperately needs help.
